48 Hour Format Trips

Our 48 hour format involves one night sleeping on board the motorcoach en route to our destination. The second night is at a motel with Project Exploration night security. These trips are two days and two nights. The overnight stay for the California trips will be in the San Diego or the Los Angeles area based on motel availability unless otherwise noted. Inquire about the growing trend for the 48 hour trips which includes an afternoon departure and an extra night stay in the motel!

OCEANS l

Join us for our most popular oceanographic experience in San Diego California. The first day will afford the opportunity to experience a three-hour Floating laboratory on the beautiful Pacific Ocean. This day will also include entrance into Sea World San Diego to participate in Project Exploration’s education program. Conclude your stay in the San Diego area with a visit to the Stephen Birch Aquarium and Museum.

Archaeology

This journey back in time is an archaeological experience traveling to Cortez, Colorado for a visit to the Anasazi Heritage Museum and a guided tour of the Mesa Verde National Park ruins and museum. Overnight will be spent in Cortez and travel home will included stops at the Four Corners Monument, Navajo National Monument, and Wupatki National Monument.

Animal Kingdom

(Revised Itinerary) This trip starts with a day spent at the spectacular San Diego Zoo located in Balboa Park. A group tour of the zoo on a double-decker bus will allow you an overview of the park at the start of the day. Overnight will be spent at a motel in the LA area. Day two takes us to the Rancho La Brea tar pits at Hancock Park in Los Angeles for an orientation about ice-age fossils and then on to visit the George C. Page Museum. The trip concludes with a visit to the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History.

NEW Grand Canyon

This NEW trip has everything you are looking for when discovering Northern Arizona! After a night traveling on the bus we will eat breakfast in Page and then onto our floating raft experience down a very calm portion of the Colorado River. During our rafting experience we will be instructed on the geology and travel the path that begins the Grand Canyon. Stopping to see ancient petroglyphs and traveling through the famous Horseshoe Bend area will be the educational highlights of the day. After a picnic lunch at Lees Ferry we'll board the bus again and stop at Wupatki and Sunset Crater National Monument to learn more about the fascinating geological and archaeological history of our great state. After dinner in Flagstaff, we will retire to a local motel. The second day we will travel to the South Entrance of the Grand Canyon and the following activities will take place: IMAX movie “Hidden Secrets of the Grand Canyon”, A guided nature hike along the south rim where we will learn more about the local flora and fauna, geology, and history of this treasure of the southwest, A visit to the Desert View overlook to see another inspiring view of one of the natural wonders of the world, and a dinner stop in Flagstaff before returning home.

Carlsbad Caverns

This geology oriented trip will visit the world-famous Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. After traveling all night, we will arrive at Carlsbad Caverns for a visit to the museum and walking tour of the great subterranean caverns. Overnight will be spent in Carlsbad. The following day we will visit White Sands National Monument, Alamogordo Space Center, and the International Space Hall of Fame.

Grand Canyon Quest

This one-night, two day trip, finds us traveling through the morning to arrive at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ. After a picnic lunch we travel to world famous Meteor Crater impact site and museum, near Willow. After a full day studying geology and archaeology at Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monument, we will retire to a motel in Flagstaff. The second day we travel to the Grand Canyon to view the IMAX movie, "Hidden Secrets of the Grand Canyon." After a brief stop for souvenir shpooing we head to Desert View overlook with an inspiring view of one of the natural wonders of the world. With a guided nature hike along the south rim we learn more about the local flora and fauna, geology, and history of this treasure of the southwest.

Living History

This two-day, one-night experience emphasizes maritime history. As the students go "Back in Time" to late 1700's or 1800's they experience what it was like as a common seaman living aboard a ship. Through role-playing and cooperative learning techniques students will be eating, working, and sleeping as they did aboard the "Star of India" for the "Voyage of Hope" or the "Californian" for the "American Revolution". A floating lab activity will finish your Star of India experience, and for those on the Californian your adventure will ned by taking the schooner out for a 3-hour sail.

Southern Arizona

This NEW trip will take you to discover the rich history and beauty of Southern Arizona! We will travel to Bisbee for a visit to the famous Copper Queen Mine. With a hard-hat, lamp and rain slicker, you will ride a mining "mule" train into the mountain to see the workings of the formerly rich copper, gold and silver mine. You will also see the Lavender Pit Surface Copper Mine and visit the Bisbee Mining Museum. From Bisbee we will travel to Tombstone to experience a informational stage coach ride, the Historic Courthouse and a stop at Boothill Cemetery. After a dinner stop we will retire to a motel in Benson, AZ. The second morning will begin with a visit to one of the worlds most recently discovered caves, Kartchner Caverns. After the cave tour we will spend the day a the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, which is a world-renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, all in one place! (This trip has limited availability due to Kartchner Caverns scheduling limitations)

Theater Quest

This two-day, one-night trip is NEW and always changing. Depending on the dates of your trip, we will take your group to a play or musical at a theater in the Southern California area that satisfies your desires. We will also make arrangements to tour a local theater and visit the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California where a staff memeber will instruct the students about the practical applications of art in everyday items. The second day will be spent at Universal Studios.

Grand Canyon Sunrise

This one-night, one-day trip finds us traveling all night to arrive at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon for sunrise. After sunrise, we will have breakfast and a guided nature hike along the south rim where we will learn more about the geology, and history of this treasure of the southwest. After our hike we will visit the IMAX Theater for an overview of the natural history and the impact of prehistoric and modern man on the Grand Canyon. Mid-day will find us visiting Wupatki and Sunset Crater National Monuments. We will arrive home that evening.

This trip is sure to add "bragging rights" to the students of Arizona. Old West Quest

This day trip includes an adventure to historic Bisbee, Arizona for a visit to the famous Copper Queen Mine. This one-day trip includes a visit to the geologic sinkhole known as Montezuma's Well. We then travel on to the spectacular Oak Creek canyon with its "petrified" sand dune formations and volcanic columnar jointing. The Museum of Northern Arizona and Sunset Crater National Monument with it's lave nature walk, finish off the trip.

This one day trip includes a visit to Southern Arizona's historic Colossal Cave south of Tucson. This visit will include a guided tour of colossal cave and a guided nature walk of approximately one half mile in the upper Sonoran desert. Also included in this experience is a visit to one of the worlds most recently discovered caves, Kartchner Caverns. This trip has limited availability due to Kartchner Caverns scheduling limitations.

Crater Quest

This trip includes a visit to the world famous Meteor Crater impact site and museum, near Winslow, a picnic stop for lunch, a visit to the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff (noted for its discovery of Pluto) then to Sunset Crater National Monument where we will be instructed about geology as we walk along the lava trail nature walk.

Desert Quest

Join us on an exciting NEW day trip to discover the Upper Sonoran Desert. We will visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, which is a world-renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, all in one place! At the museum we will experience a discovery lab in their educational classroom. We will also visit the Red Hills Visitor Center at the Saguaro National Monument.

This one-day trip, includes a guided tour at Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson. We will also visit one of the largest air and space museums in the world, the Pima Air & Space Museum. You'll see more than 275 aircraft and spacecraft including many of the most highly historically significant and technically advanced aircraft ever produced, both from the United States and throughout the world.
